It was the year 2006. There was this young German driver named Sebastian Vettel who was then BMW-Sauber’s Friday Practice Driver in Formula One. He was still racing in the junior series but for some reason, his moxie and driving style caught my eye and I thought to myself, “This kid is going to be a future World Champion.” And it’s not just because he is nicknamed Baby Schumi, mind. Six years later, he is not just a World Champion but a triple F1 World Champion at that. Premonition? Destiny? Who knows?
Anyway, before I further digress, here are the photos of the actual project:

The impending return of Formula One has gotten me into a crafting mood recently, and while I’ve done this project inspired by my favourite “active” driver Kimi Raikkonen some days ago, I’ve decided it won’t be fair if I don’t do one in honor of my all-time favourite (and recently retired) F1 driver Michael Schumacher:
Schumi Mobile Phone Charm: Front & Rear View.
So even if I won’t get to see him race anymore this year (*holds back tears*), at the very least I’ll have a small reminder of his sheer awesomeness with me. Danke, Schumi!
The off-season can be long and arduous for us hardcore racing fans. So what better way to take some of the edge off than to do some DIY racecraft (see what I did there)?

P.S. Lotus GP will be the first team to unveil their 2013 car this Monday, January 28. Only a few more days to go and us starved F1 fanatics shall be given a scrumptious treat! Here’s hoping the Enstone-based team will start the upcoming series of 2013 Car Launches with nothing short of a bang!
A small tribute to this Finn’s remarkable F1 return:

Many moons ago, this German racer named Michael Schumacher captured my attention and turned me into a full-fledged Formula One fan. His first retirement from the sport in 2006 broke my heart, but his 2010 return and subsequent 3-year stint with Mercedes GP has been quite a dream come true not just for me, but for many of his fans as well.
However, as the old cliché goes, all good things must come to an end.
There’s only 3 races left to go before his permanent retirement from racing, and while my heart is still in denial, the proactive crafter in me wanted to do something—anything, to somehow mark the impending closure of his illustrious career.
And so the idea of making a bookmark was born.

I shall not deserve to be called a first-class, ride-or-die Michael Schumacher supporter if I have not done anything to celebrate his 300th GP in Spa-Francorchamps last weekend. And so I’ve made this DIY Schumi keyfob as a reminder of his general awesomeness as a Formula 1 driver and icon.
Good luck this weekend at Monza, Schumi!
