Actually, the more accurate title would have been Iker Casillas vs Bayern Munich.
There wasn’t much to shout about throughout the whole 90 mins. I have to say though that overall, Bayern Munich played the better football.
Some fans and pundits claim that Real Madrid is now showing signs of being a Jose Mourinho team– Playing unattractive football for most of the match but still ends up winning it.
But that’s not the point of this post.
The point of this is to highlight and underline the sheer awesomeness of a certain Señor Iker Casillas.
After a snoozefest of 90+minutes, the match would have to be decided through a penalty shootout, and just like the El Capitan that he is, he stepped up and showed the Bayern Munich lads that he’s the Golden Glove winner and holder for four more years.
The saves were stunning, flawless, fierce, powerful. Unsurprising but still mightily impressive. Yeah, San Iker totally owned, and that was just a friendly.
Although, it has to be stated that the likes of Miroslav Klose and Bastian Schweinsteiger mysteriously did not take any Penalty Kicks. Oh, and those from BM who missed theirs were the Non-Germans. This is why Germans should ALWAYS take the Penalty Kicks, whether they are for earth-shattering end-all and be-all Matches or useless for-bragging-rights-only Friendlies.
In the end, there were kisses exchanged amongst the Real Madrid players, not enough bare torsos on display, but most important, they played one of Iker’s favourite songs of the moment– Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling”. Now, while I laugh at Iker’s WC iPod playlist once again, feast your eyes on the Penalty Shootout highlights and reflect on what this man has done to warrant such an insane level of awesomeness in his person.
It’s good to be Iker.
